You might be wondering about the title of this blog. To be clear, "Them" is not the kids!
I have another blog, Like Mother, Like Daughter (which I am by no means abandoning -- this new one is just to see if I can stay off of FB and Twitter), that is about keeping home, educating children, and life in general.
In this post I explain how the title, which is our family motto, came to be.
I love the simple look of the "new" blog, however, at least in my browser, the name gets cut off along the edge of the picture. It reads "Happy Des".
ReplyDeleteThanks, Carol; I was fiddling with the layout and messed it up. If you refresh it should be better! Let me know if not!
DeleteYep! It looks good!
DeleteOh, now this is going to be FUN. Social media, more and more, just makes me want to lie down. Cranking up the blog machine feels sensible, really.
ReplyDeleteGlad you think so, Melissa!
DeleteYour motto is the perfect explanation for the necessity of this new blog too, isn't it?!
ReplyDeleteYou inspired us to create a family motto years ago; being a country family with bunches of kids and a couple small businesses, we landed on "Thoroughly Relentless Cultivation."
Yes, Bley, exactly!
DeleteThoroughly Relentless Cultivation sounds very tramping on the heather-ish!
Brighter from Obscurity..
ReplyDeleteMy ancestors' motto apparently. You sent me down a rabbit hole. My grandmother's family was Scottish. Not recently, but back in the 1700s I think they came to America. Still, my grandmother's mother inherited a castle in Scotland that she lost because no one could afford the taxes. And my mom tracked down our tartan, and everything, lol. Anyway. I like your motto better I think. Even if I am obscure...heh.
I love that motto! It's like "blessed are the poor" or something about the hidden life.
DeleteIt's beautiful!
I have a confession to make... Let me start by saying that I dearly love you and your family and have been reading your Like Mother blog for ages. I also have known of your older blog Happy Despite Them. However, I am feeling rather ashamed to admit that I interpreted the title of that blog to mean you were happy despite all the children! In a tongue-in-cheek sort of way, of course! I am happy to hear that "Them" refers to those outside of your family! It seems so many parents do like to portray that attitude of "Just look at what we have to put up with with these kids!" I had my one and only daughter when I was 45 (she's turning 15 now), whom I'm happy because of:) As an older "new" mom, I've been very grateful to you for all the advice and common sense wisdom throughout the years.
ReplyDeleteOh, well then I am glad I explained it! haha Thank you for your kind words!
DeleteI'm so excited to have found your "new" blog. I deleted my IG and FB and I was missing your posts. Especially of all the wonderful pictures you'd share on IG! Please tell Rosie I said hello and that we have a Catholic Military Wives group on SP3RN if she happens to use that. God bless you!
