Remembering the great Cardinal Jozsef Mindszenty on his birthday

From a piece posted by my husband:

"Today is the birthday of the late, great Cardinal Jozsef Mindszenty, and an appropriate time to mention that Ignatius Press has issued an impressive new edition of his Memoirs [affiliate link], with an introduction by Daniel Mahoney, a timeline of his struggles with Hungarian totalitarianism, and 70 pages of relevant documents. The book does a valuable service, to ensure that the story of a man who was once the world’s leading symbol of Catholic resistance to Communism does not pass lightly from the public memory.Imagine a Pope (Pius XII) excommunicating everyone involved in the show trial of a victim of Communism, Cardinal Mindszenty."

Imagine a Pope (Pius XII) excommunicating everyone involved in the show trial of a victim of Communism, Cardinal Mindszenty.

It is possible but barely conceivable today. Yet so needed: Think of all the medical personnel involved in immoral acts and crimes against children, including the unborn; think of politicians using their power to keep abortion legal and undermine marriage!

Imagine a Pope (Paul VI) lifting that excommunication and betraying that victim all over again.

Possible and sadly, believable.
