PSA: Hardened Northerners, turn on your heat!

We get it, you're tough. I'm a tough New Englander too!

BUT -- it's false economy, by November, not to turn on your heat!

It's not good for your house to get very cold and then warm up in the autumn sunshine -- all your caulking will crack and then your house will be even more drafty! It's not good for moisture to condense on the windows. They will rot and need to be replaced! And it's not good to be so cold if you don't have to!

Just set the thermostat, fire up your wood stove, and ditch the stoicism -- you're not saving money! 😂

I have a post on my other blog about keeping warm in winter, frugally but effectively: Ask Auntie Leila: Getting the house ready and warm for winter.

  1. Thank you! Excellent reasons for turning the heat on when it begins to get cold. I am not a stoic.
